Since October 10, 2020, it is mandatory for co-owners to take out liability insurance, the amount of which varies according to the size of your union under article 1064.1 of the Civil Code of Quebec.

• $ 1 million, if the building has less than 13 fractions used or capable of being used as a housing unit or for the operation of a business;
• $ 2 million, if the building has 13 or more fractions.

Also, don’t forget to consult your declaration of co-ownership because the minimum amount may be higher than what the law requires.
